Charminar
Category : History & CultureOne of the major historical sites worth visiting in the city of Hyderabad is the Charminar. Situated in the heart of the city, Charminar stands at the height of 46 m and is popularly called the Arc de Triomphe of the East. The monument was built in 1591 AD by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. Mecca Masjid
Category : ReligiousOne of the oldest and biggest mosques in the country, this mosque was built by Md. Quli Qutub Shah during his reign. Almost 10,000 worshippers can be accommodated simultaneously in this huge structure. The arches are carved from a single piece of stone and important verses of the Holy Quran are written on them as well as on the doors. At the entrance are the marbled graves of several rulers of the city, such as the Asaf Jahi kings and the Nizams. Golconda Fort

Salar Jung Museum

Nehru Zoological Park
Category : Wild LifeThis 380-acre zoo, located close to the Mir Alam Tank in Hyderabad, is managed by the Government of Telangana. It has over a hundred species of animals, birds and reptiles, including some rare ones like the Asiatic lion, Indian rhino, gaur, panther, crocodiles, orangutan, pythons, etc. Different types of kangaroos, deer, nocturnal birds, owls and antelopes also reside here. Char Kaman

Char Kaman refers to four different arcs made in the city of Hyderabad by Mir Momin. These arcs are situated at few meters at the four different roads of the city which intersects at a place where a blue colored fountain is situated. Chilkur Balaji Temple

Museums in Hyderabad

- Birla Science Museum or Birla Planetarium - Equipped with modern Japanese technology, this planetarium is situated on Naubat Pahad.
- Salar Jung Museum - Famous for housing one of the highest one-man antique collections in the world, this museum displays items like Mughal miniatures, Persian carpets, Japanese lacquer ware, Chinese porcelain and some famous statues.
- Andhra Pradesh State Archaeological Museum - Built in the year 1920, this museum exhibits some of the unique pieces of art and antiques. Its building reflects the Indo-Saracenic architectural style.
- The Health Museum-
It was set up at Hyderabad in the year 1948 and is situated at a
stone's throw from the Public Gardens. The kind words of praise from
Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru which reads, "A very fine and healthy museum. I
wish other cities had something like this" greets the eager visitors
into this land of wonders.
- The Nizam's Silver Jubilee Museum - Located within Purani Haveli, this museum houses last Nizam’s mementos and gifts. Vintage cars like Mark V Jaguar, Packard and Rolls Royce are even exhibited there along with gold models of varied buildings of the city.

The city has even got some places for amusement. If you want to enjoy some amusement rides with your family or friends, following are the places that you need not miss:
- Elles World - This amusement park located near Gandipet has got fun rides meant for children as well as adults.
- Treasure Island - Located over 60 acres area at Gandipet, this fun place includes activities like go-karting, horse riding, swimming, disco, billiard and many more.
- Ocean Park - This 20-acre, beautifully gardened park is situated at Gandipet. It has many water slides and pools, which are the main attraction during summers. Other amusements are rides such as cars, super loop, roller coasters, tora tora, swinging ship and slam bombs. Jet skiing, trains, and video games are also popular. The park is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Entry fee is Rs. 150 for adults and Rs.100 for kids.
- Indira Park- It is a public park located in the heart of the city, at the Dolaguda residential locality. It is managed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. The famous Hussain Sagar Lake is situated just beside the park. The park is famous for a rock garden spread over two acres, and includes a lion king, a termite house, cobras, butterflies, and elephants. The lush green sandalwood trees add to the beauty of the park. One of the major attractions is a manmade desert.
- Snow World - Being the country’s 1st park based on the theme of snow, this amusement park provides opportunity to its visitors to enjoy a fun day at -5° C as well as artificial snow fall.
Getaways from Hyderabad
- Alampur:Located at a distance of 200 km from Hyderabad,
Alampur is famous for its marvellous temples and remnants of some
ancient temples. It is famous for the nine temples known as Nava Brahma
temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva. These temples were built by the Badami
Chalukyas, who reigned for about 200 years, starting from the middle of
the sixth century.
- Vijayawada: Siutated around 265 kilometres from Hyderabad,
Vijaywada is located on the banks of Krishna river. One of the busiest
railway junctions in India, it is also known as the business city of
Telangana. It holds tremendous religious significance for Hindus as well
as Buddhists. The main places of worship in Vijaywada include the
Kanaka Durga Temple, St.Mary's Church, Gunadala Matha Shrine. Besides,
there are plenty of other attractions like the Rajiv Gandhi Park,
Victoria Museum, Mogalarajapuram caves, Hazrat Bal Mosque, Kondapali
Fort etc.
- Bhadrachalam: Lying about 320 kilometres from Hyderabad,
Bhadrachalam is a popular religious spot.Thousands of Hindu pilgrims
visit this holy town every year, especially during the time of
Ramnavami. It is famous for a temple dedicated to Lord Rama.
- Nagarjunasagar and Nagarjunakonda: Located in the Guntur
district of Telangana, Nagarjuna Konda is about 156 kms from Hyderabad.
It is a pilgrimage spot for Buddhists, housing the relics of a Buddhist
civilisation dating back to 3rd Century A.D. The chief draw is a partly
ruined statue of the Buddha. The other major attractions in Nagarjuna
Konda include a waterfall, a massive dam and a museum. Excavations at
Nagarjuna Konda have led to the discovery of an ancient civilization.
The museum, located in the center of man-made dam Nagarjuna Sagar houses
many of the relics from these excavations.
- Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary: Located at a distance of about 112 kms from Hyderabad, Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary has earned plaudits for its beautiful landscape. Spread over an area of about 860 square kms, it is named after the man-made lake Pakhal lake. Established as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1952, it famous for its wide range of flora and fauna. The main animal species include the leopard, sambhar, nilgai, sloth bear, spotted deer, mountain gazelle, four horned antelope etc.
Tourist Destinations Near Hyderabad
One can make excursions from Hyderabad to the nearby regions. There are many enthralling places in the vicinity to the capital of Telangana with an array of travel attractions.
There are many places in Warangal that are bound to leave you with great memories. Warangal, located around 200 km from Hyderabad was once the hub of Telugu culture. The Warangal Fort is known for its wonderful architecture.
Nagarjunasagar
Another famous destination is the Nagarjunasagar, which is located 150 km from Hyderabad. With world's tallest masonry dam across river Krishna, Nagarjunasagar is a popular tourist destination of South India. Apart from this, other worth visiting attractions in the place are the island museum of Nagarjunakonda and the beautiful waterfalls of Ethipothala.
Keesaragutta
Keesaragutta is another popular destination, situated about 35 km from Hyderabad. It is a historic temple village and was once the capital of the great Vishnukundin dynasty.
Basar
Basar in Telangana is located 240 km from Hyderabad. It is situated on the banks of the mighty Godavari River, in Adilabad district. It is famous for the only Saraswati temple in South India.
Pochampally
Yet another destination known as Pochampally is located in Nalgonda district and it is situated about 35 km from Hyderabad. This lovely village is renowned in the country for its gorgeous, hand-woven silk and cotton saris.
